Do not meddle or change location of leopard cubs: Wildlife Dept

The Wildlife Department has requested the public not to meddle with or change the locations of leopard cubs found in shrub jungles in the central hills.

A senior official of the Department said every leopardess going in search of food is in the habit of hiding their cubs under buses until they returned.

A Department official warned against any possible danger if the leopardess was frequenting close by and advised not to take closeup photos of cubs.

He requested the public to leave the cubs alone and move away without fondling them. The wildlife conservator said the leopardess would refuse to take away the cubs after human handling.

He requested the public to call the Department’s hotline 1992 or inform the nearest Wildlife Conservation office immediately if any cubs were found. (Shantha Chandrasiri)
