The Chinese Embassy in Colombo today laid to rest what it called ‘disinformation' on local and foreign media about Sri Lanka getting ready to export “100 thousand endangered” toque macaque monkeys to a Chinese private company for “experimental purpose."
Issuing a press release, the Embassy said the Chinese National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the main government department supervising and managing the import and export of wild animals and plants, clearly clarified that it is not aware of the request and has not received any such application from any side.
“The Embassy would like to further stress that as a contracting party of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), China has already adopted its Wildlife Protection Law in 1988 with several amendments afterwards. The Chinese government always attaches great importance to wildlife protection and actively fulfill international obligations, which makes China one of top countries in the world in terms of wildlife protection legislation and law enforcement," the statement said.
Agriculture Minister Maninda Amaraweera earlier said he received a request from a private entity in China to import around 100,000 Torque monkeys from Sri Lanka. He said he would appoint a committee to study this request to explore the feasibility of it.
However, the Chinese authorities have now denied any such request by any party there. (Kelum Bandara)

Why doesn't this man, as he is usually fond of doing, show himself on the TV and explain to the country what has happened .Was the Commission demanded too high ?

China would be requiring around 1000 pairs to its 1000 zoos to be kept for exhibition purposes not 100000 in bulk. SL can open training centers to train young monkeys to domestic work in houses in place of servants. We have seen in you tubes how dressed monkeys carry on shopping and domestic works.

It is a lie perpetuated, using local agents, by the same foreign intelligence agency of an Asian country that is hellbent on destroying Sri Lanka without using any military force. This is also the same entity which has played a vital role in Colombo demonstrations by infitrating it's paid locals to join the genuine demonstrators to create violence and mayhem . It is all because of Sri Lankan friendship with China.
preading of monkey to overseas is fine, as long as overseas country wants them Thursday, 20 April 2023 01:44 PM
The request was unofficial, and shown in other media as spurned by news here that government now allowed unrestricted killing of monkeys. The request had that instead of killing some be allowed for private zoos in China, however it was all done as private matter without Chinese authorities being involved. While the mass killing of wildlife is now allowed, it is appalling no export of the same being killed animals is allowed.
