Colombo, Dec.2 (Daily Mirror) - The depression over the South-West Bay of Bengal will develop into a deep depression during the next 12 hours and further into a cyclonic storm by tomorrow (3), the forecasting division of the National Meteorological Centre said.
They said the depression is located about 490 kilometres North-East of Trincomalee.
The system is expected to move West-North-Westward, near the North coast of Sri Lanka, towards the North Tamil Nadu coast of India by Tuesday (5).
Therefore, cloudy skies can be expected over most parts of the island.
Above 100 mm, showers will occur in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and North-Western Provinces and other provinces of the island after 1:00 p.m.
Strong winds of about 50 kmph can be expected over the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern Provinces and in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
