Colombo, July 1 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka’s dengue caseload has exceeded 55,000, with June alone accounting for more than 21,500 infections, according to the latest figures released by the National Dengue Surveillance System.
Data as of midnight on June 30 showed that 55,406 dengue cases and 32 deaths had been reported so far this year.
June recorded 21,565 cases, making it the worst-affected month of 2026 and accounting for nearly 39% of all infections reported this year.
This was a significant increase from 8,590 cases reported in May. Earlier this year, 7,866 cases were reported in January, 5,721 in February, 6,013 in March and 5,651 in April.
The Western Province remained the epicentre of the outbreak, recording 29,093 cases, or 52.51% of the national total. The Southern Province followed with 8,822 cases, while the Sabaragamuwa Province reported 4,843 cases.
Among districts, Colombo recorded the highest number of infections with 11,392 cases, followed closely by Gampaha with 11,006. Matara reported 4,007 cases, Kalutara 3,677, Ratnapura 3,333, Kandy 3,332 and Galle 3,220.
Furthermore, health authorities have identified 124 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas as high-risk for dengue transmission, while the average midnight hospital census of dengue patients stood at 2,179.
