The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported that a total of 61 persons have died and 25 remain missing as severe weather continues to affect the country.
According to the DMC, the ongoing adverse conditions, which began on 16 November, have so far impacted 43,991 individuals from 12,313 families across the country.
Furthermore, the DMC stated that four houses have been completely destroyed, while 666 others have suffered partial damages.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department forecast very heavy rainfall above 200 mm at some places in the Northern, North-Central, Central,
North-Western, Sabaragamuwa and Western Provinces and above 150 mm at some places in the Trincomalee, Badulla, Galle and Matara districts.
“Fairly heavy rainfall above 75 mm are likely at some places in the other areas of the island,” it said.
“Very strong winds at times about 60-70 kmph and gusting up to 80-90 kmph can be expected
over most parts of the island,” it added.
