Colombo, Dec.4 (Daily Mirror) - The cyclonic storm 'Michaung' is expected to intensify further and move northwestward away from Sri Lanka towards the North Tamil Nadu coast of India, the forecasting division of the National Meteorological Centre said.

They said the cyclonic storm is over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and is currently located about 365 kms northeast of Jaffna.

The storm will move northwards and cross the South Andhra Pradesh coasts around tomorrow (5).

Therefore, heavy showers of about 75 mm would occur in the Northern and North-Central Provinces and in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts after 1:00 p.m.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

It is dangerous to engage in activities on the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankesanthurai.

Therefore, the naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture out to the above sea areas until further notice.

Naval and fishing communities engaged in activities in the other sea areas around the island are requested to be vigilant and are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
