Colombo, Feb. 23 (Daily Mirror) - The Customs Trade Union Alliance comprising the Customs Staff Officers’ Association, the Senior Customs Superintendents Association, and the Customs Officers Association has warned of potential work stoppages if longstanding delays in promotions and salary adjustments are not addressed immediately.
The unions allege that the revised Recruitment Procedure (SOR), scheduled for implementation on 13 February 2020, has yet to be fully enforced, leaving officers without lawful promotions and pay for six years.
Officers have reportedly performed high-ranking duties without the corresponding benefits, aiding the department in exceeding revenue targets.
Highlighting the potential consequences, the unions cautioned that prolonged inaction could trigger union-led measures affecting customs operations, with possible ripple effects on the national economy and public services. They emphasized that their demands are limited to rightful pay and promotions under the existing procedure, and have called for immediate written confirmation from authorities.
