Colombo, April 17 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Rathnayake today issued a conditional restraining order against former Provincial Councilor and Central Committee Member of the Frontline Socialist Party, Indrananda de Silva.
The order prevents him from disseminating, publishing or circulating any false and hateful statements concerning Retired Major General Ashoka Thoradeniya via electronic, print or social media.
The restraining order, effective till April 30, was issued after considering a complaint filed by Retired Major General Thoradeniya under Section 24 of the Online Safety Act No. 9 of 2024, naming former North Central Provincial Councillor Indrananda de Silva as the respondent.
President’s Counsel Sanjay Rajaratnam and Counsel Sudath Jayasundara, appearing on behalf of the complainant, presented submissions before the court. PC Rajaratnam told court that the respondent had been making false and hateful statements about the complainant to various media outlets and further disseminating such content via social media platforms.
Having considered the submissions, the Additional Magistrate issued the restraining order, effective till the next hearing on April 30.
