Parliament, January 22 (Daily Mirror)- Parliament is to introduce a cost reflective price for MPs' meals soon, where meals including breakfast, lunch and evening tea might cost Rs. 3,000, Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayke announced today.

Still it is too cheap at an establishment of that nature with buffet. Breakfast should be at least 1800. Lunch or Dinner Should be 2500 to 3000 at least. Otherwise it is stillan utter waste of public money. You guys said cateen will be closed and now doing totally opposite.

We all applaud the simple messages from our new government, Make the elected officials feel the plight of the people. Make them pay, especially the retired and rejected higher echelons. When school children are drinking sugar water as meals, why should these bums get treated right royally? The disgruntled supporters are free to offer alms to them as they wish. Yes, even in rich countries only free tea , coffer or soft drinks may be served but not free meals. In the past, I know that many politicians in Sri Lanka have been entertaining their families friends also at the parliament canteen at the expense of taxpayer's money.

Yes, the heavy subsidy needs to be removed and the MPs and the staff need to pay the actual costs, same as any other government worker in the country. Remove the burden on the public. The MPs are receiving an allowance for the Parliament attendance and it should easily pay for the meals cost.

The best solution is to outsource the parliment canteen to a good catering Company. They will run the canteen efficiently and also generate profits. They will also pay taxes on the revenue that they make and govt will not have to spend a cent on maintaining and running the Canteen. Outsourcing the canteen to a private catering Company is the best option. Everyone will have to pay for their meals to this Company and they will get a receipt when they buy their food from the canteen.
