Colombo, June 11 (Daily Mirror) - A Coroner attached to the Ragama (North Colombo) Teaching Hospital has been arrested by investigative officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
The suspect, identified as Sudarshana Sri Lal Indrajith Dissanayake, was arrested today following a complaint lodged by a resident of Mount Lavinia.
The suspect had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 100,000 from the complainant in exchange for releasing a judicial medical report concerning an individual who had passed away at the Ragama Hospital on December 28, 2025.
The investigation revealed that the coroner had accepted the requested bribe of Rs. 100,000 on June 8, 2026, and handed over the inquest report. He was subsequently taken into custody after reporting to the Commission. Charges have been laid against him for demanding and accepting public funds under illegal circumstances.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court for further legal proceedings.
