Constitutional Council to consider Auditor General nomination

Colombo, January 31 (Daily Mirror) - Chief Government Whip Bimal Rathnayake said the President’s nomination for the post of Auditor General is expected to be taken up when the Constitutional Council meets today (31) for its second sitting with newly appointed civil society representatives.

The Constitutional Council, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, held its first meeting on Friday (30) following the appointment of the new civil society members.

Prof. Wasantha Seneviratne, Austin Fernando and Ranjith Ariyaratne attended the meeting after being jointly approved by the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition, while several other members participated via Zoom.

Although there had been expectations that a decision on filling the vacant Auditor General's post would be reached at Friday’s meeting, the Office of the Speaker said the matter was deferred to a subsequent session.
