Colombo District Court issues enjoining order on G.P. Nissanka

The Colombo District Court issued an enjoining order today on G.P. Nissanka, restraining him from compiling and disseminating defamatory content against Defence Secretary, General (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne.

The enjoining order was granted in response to the dissemination of false and defamatory material through the web page “Sri Rawana Lanka Puwath” operated by G.P. Nissanka. 

The court issued this enjoining order during a hearing related to a compensation claim of Rs. 01 billion against the defendant for his statements published in bad faith.

This enjoining order specifically prohibits G.P. Nissanka from spreading or propagating malicious statements or false and fabricated content aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the plaintiff through the web page “Sri Rawana Lanka Puwath" or any other programme or social media platform. The court's decision was based on the facts presented by the plaintiff.

President's Counsel Jagath Wickramanayake represented the case under the instructions of Attorney-at-Law Eranga Pinnaduwa.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for 09 November at the Colombo District Court.
