Clear division within government on education reforms: Chamith Wijesundera

Colombo, Jan. 23 (Daily Mirror) - There is a clear division in the government with regard to the proposed education reforms, SJB Member of the Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Municipal Council Chamith Wijesundera said today.

"There are NPP MPs who back the remarks made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on education reforms and others who back Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya who is also the Minister of Education. Those who back the President want the Opposition to move the no faith motion on the Prime Minister," he said.

Education reforms shouldn’t be restricted to the syllabuses alone (no matter how important they are in themselves), we should have a holistic approach resolving all other issues too. One good example is the previous governments’ approach of improving the quality of local schools by initiatives like ‘Langama Pasala Hondama Pasala - the closest school is the best school’ to relieve this mad rush on the Year 5 scholarship. It’s also important to make use of private schools, international schools and even tuition institutes (under some regulatory arrangement) by bringing them to the mix especially in teaching and practising English language from a very young age. Many other countries have done this successfully in sectors like education and health (i.e. private sector to work hand in hand with the private sector). Learn how this has been done there and tailor their approach to the Sri Lankan context. This can be done and It’s not rocket science!

What is this fallow is saying, nonsense, you found divisions in previous governance , they often covered it by saying that the opinion is not of the government and of the individual. You don’t find that in this administration.
