China provides USD 100,000 in emergency aid to Sri Lanka after Cyclone Ditwah

The Red Cross Society of China has provided USD 100,000 in emergency cash assistance to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society to support ongoing relief operations.

The Chinese Embassy in Colombo said that further emergency aid from the Chinese government is underway.

The Embassy noted that recent severe floods and landslides triggered by Cyclone Ditwah have caused substantial casualties and widespread property damage across Sri Lanka, and stated that the people of China “share the grief” of those affected.

Chinese community organisations in Sri Lanka have also mobilised support. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Overseas Chinese Association have launched donation drives and have so far collected LKR 10 million for affected areas.

The Embassy expressed confidence that, under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and with the support of the international community, Sri Lanka will overcome the disaster, stand united, and rebuild in the near future.
