During the next two weeks, consumers will benefit from the reduction of the prices of chicken and eggs, All-Island Poultry Farmers' Association chairman Ajith Gunasekara said.
He said the concession would be possible due to measures taken by the government to reduce the prices of animal foods.
The association had a discussion with the relevant authorities of the government on Wednesday (26).
"Following a lengthy discussion, the government agreed to take an immediate decision on importing the required maze stocks and to provide the excess paddy from the annual paddy harvest for the animals. This decision will help us reduce the production costs," he said.
If we get the required animal foods at a lower price, that benefit too would be given to the people.
If the raw materials for animal food production are available at lower costs it would help reduce the selling price of a kilo of chicken and eggs, Gunasekara said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
