Colombo, August 24 (Daily Mirror) - Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has raised alarm over the arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, warning that it poses a grave danger to Sri Lanka’s democratic framework.
Issuing a statement, Kumaratunga said the move was a deliberate attack on democratic values, adding that its impact goes well beyond an individual or political party.
She stressed that the development undermines the rights of society at large and urged all political leaders to stand against such actions.
Kumaratunga further declared her “unreserved opposition” to what she described as attempts to weaken democracy, calling for collective resistance.
