Castle road rail level crossing closed this weekend, Kelani Valley trains restricted



Colombo, July 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Castle Road railway level crossing between Baseline and Narahenpita railway stations will be closed to vehicular traffic for 22 hours this weekend due to essential renovation work, the Railways Department said.

According to the Department, the crossing will remain completely closed from 9.30 a.m. on Saturday (July 11) until 7.30 a.m. on Sunday (July 12) while renovation work is carried out at the Castle Road level crossing on the Kelani Valley railway line.

During this period, train services between Colombo Fort and Narahenpita railway stations on the Kelani Valley Line will be suspended.

To minimise disruptions, three slow trains will operate from Narahenpita to Avissawella on Saturday evening. Train No. 9262 will depart at 5.15 p.m., Train No. 9264 at 6.20 p.m., and Train No. 9271 at 8.30 p.m.

On Sunday morning, three slow trains will operate from Avissawella to Colombo Fort. Train No. 9649 will depart at 5.15 a.m., Train No. 9641 at 5.55 a.m., and Train No. 9651 at 6.25 a.m.

The Railways Department apologised for the inconvenience caused to commuters and motorists and urged the public to use alternative routes while the Castle Road level crossing remains closed.
