Car suspected in Akuregoda shooting found burning in Galle
Colombo, February 15 (Daily Mirror) - The Nugegoda Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau has located the car believed to have been used by gunmen in the fatal shooting of a lawyer and his wife in Akuregoda, Thalangama.
Police said the vehicle was discovered on a by-road in Kuttiyawatta, Galle, while it was on fire.
Officers had received information that the car used in the killing of lawyer Buddhika Mallawarachchi and his wife had been abandoned in Galle. Acting on the tip-off, police rushed to the scene and found the vehicle engulfed in flames.
Investigators suspect that the double murder was carried out by organised criminals allegedly linked to Jayalath Silva, also known as “Karandeniye Sudda,” who is believed to be hiding overseas.
