Colombo, Dec. 12 (Daily Mirror) - Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today urged the government to call for a dialogue with all relevant parties on the proposed Universities Amendment Bill which has already been tabled in Parliament.

He said the government should go for a discussion with deans, heads of faculties and other stakeholders in the university sector before enacting the proposed legislation.

Certainly you can call for opinions and even suggestions from the university dons but as they are recipients of public money, such suggestions cannot be considered binding. The ultimate decision will be parliament.

No meeting necessary. Request the stake holders to make their input in writing for consideration. Once received accommodate the meaningful suggestions and finish the job
