Cabinet approves grant from India to provide electric motorcycles for fisheries field officers



Colombo, March 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet has approved a proposal to provide electric motorcycles to field officers engaged in fisheries duties under a financial grant from the Government of India.

The Government has focused special attention on improving facilities for field officers of the Fisheries and Aquatic ResourcesDepartment, the National Aquaculture Development Authority, and field research assistants of the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Institute, with the aim of enabling them to perform their duties more effectively and efficiently.

Accordingly, plans have been made to provide electric motorcycles to 430 officers engaged in field-level duties in the fisheries sector in 2026 to ensure uninterrupted transportation facilities.

The Indian Government has agreed to provide financial assistance amounting to Rs. 264.59 million as a grant to cover the cost of the motorcycles.

The proposal submitted by the Fisheries, Aquatic and Marine Resources Minister to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Government to obtain the grant received Cabinet approval.
