Angolan woman nabbed at BIA with Rs. 10m cocaine concealed inside body



Colombo, July 18 (Daily Mirror) - A 54-year-old Angolan woman has been arrested by the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine worth more than Rs. 10 million into the country by concealing the drug inside her body.

The suspect arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on July 17 aboard Qatar Airways flight QR654 after travelling from Angola via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Doha, Qatar. 

She was reportedly using a wheelchair upon arrival, which drew the attention of Customs officers.

During questioning, the woman voluntarily surrendered 14 capsules containing cocaine that had been concealed inside her body. 

She also admitted to Customs investigators that she had swallowed several additional capsules containing the narcotic.

Customs said the recovered capsules contained a total of 237 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of more than Rs. 10 million. 

Investigations are continuing.
