CPC, LIOC increased fuel prices

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has decided to increase the fuel prices with effect from 2.00 am today.

A litre of Petrol 92 Octane has been increased by Rs. 50 while a litre of Petrol 95 Octane by Rs.100, a litre of Auto Diesel by Rs.60 and a litre of Super Diesel has been increased by Rs. 75.

Accordingly, the new price of a litre of Petrol Octane 92 is Rs. 470 and Octane 95 is Rs. 550.

The price of a litre of Auto Diesel is Rs. 460 and litre of Super Diesel is Rs. 520.

Meanwhile, the LIOC has also increased the fuel prices and now both the CEYPETCO and the LIOC fuel prices stand equal.

Few weeks before when the fuel prices were increased the minister said they were still making a loss of Rs1.00 from a litter of petrol. So, can we now assume that with this increase the Ceypetco has now been successfully converted into a profit making business entity from today onwards.

When oil prices are now around USD 109/bbl, whilst it was in the region of USD 120/bbl in May, why is CPC buy oil at USD 158/bbl on DAP terms. Why USD 38/bbl, when the freight per metric tonne itself is less than USD 38/handy vessel and less than USD 20/MT per aframax vessel which CPC brings crude oil. Metric tonne has 7.75 barrels. That's a price of USD 385/MT of oil, for freight at DAP terms, when even USD 100/MT of freight for longer distances from Middle East or Singapore is not heard of. Something very fishy.

Petrol used by mostly Rich people and no need to give below cost petrol to Rich !! THREE wheelers should get concessionary price!! And private buses too Must get subsidized price diesel !!
