Colombo, July 8 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigation Department today informed Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena that it has concluded all investigations into the case filed against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe over allegations that he caused a loss of more than Rs. 16 million to the State.
The case relates to allegations that, during his tenure as President, Wickremesinghe undertook what has been described as a private visit to London to attend the graduation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe, resulting in a financial loss exceeding Rs. 16 million to the Government.
Appearing on behalf of the CID, State Counsel Samadari Piyasena informed court that the investigation has been completed and the relevant extracts have been forwarded to the Attorney General for advice.
The Magistrate fixed the case for September 30 to obtain the Attorney General's instructions.
