CID, CERT to seek international technical assistance to identify cybercrimes against women: Minister

Colombo, May 7 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT)are seeking international technical assistance to identify cybercrimes committed against women by misusing their images.

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told Parliament that a mechanism is in place together with Facebook and Instagram to identify and remove post on sexual abuse against women using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Responding to a question by Rajeevan Jeyachandramoorthy, the Minister said 4,103 cases of cybercrimes relating to offences against women have been reported in 2023, wirh 3,159 cases in 2024 and 4,742 cases in 2025.

The Minister said only 755 cases have been resolved in 2023 while some 3,388 cases are still to be resolved in 2023 adding that 2,177 cases are still to be resolved in 2024 and 4,170 cases in 2025.
