CEB admitted the failure to restore power supply immediately: PUCSL chairman

Colombo, Dec.28 (Daily Mirror) - The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had admitted their failure and the delay in restoring island-wide power in December, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Prof. M. A. R. M. Fernando said.

He told the Daily Mirror that the island-wide power failure had occurred due to a system failure in the main supply line.

"This was a natural situation, and it was not sabotage. The CEB had admitted that they had failed to restore the power supply immediately," he said.

The PUCSL is going to have a discussion in this regard.

However, several discussion rounds were held regarding the tariff revision and the recent island-wide power failure, the Chairman said.

Earlier, the Power and Energy Ministry said the island-wide blackout was also due to a breakdown in the transmission line from Kotmale to Biyagama.

In addition, the CEB confirmed the blackout was due to multiple lightning strikes on several transformers and hydro-power stations.

However, island-wide power was restored after six hours.
