CBSL Chief wins ‘A’ grade from Global Finance

Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has received an ‘A’ grade in Global Finance magazine’s Annual Central Banker Report Cards 2025, a recognition that comes as the Central Bank of Sri Lanka marks its 75th anniversary.

Global Finance, which has published the rankings since 1994, evaluates nearly 100 central bank governors worldwide on inflation control, currency stability, interest rate management, economic growth and political independence. Grades range from ‘A+’ for excellent performance to ‘F’ for outright failure.

“We’re beginning to see the results of those tough policy decisions,” said Global Finance Founder and Editorial Director Joseph Giarraputo, noting that most central bankers spent recent years battling inflation with higher interest rates.

“Our annual Central Banker Report Cards recognize those leaders who have not only delivered results but done so with independence, discipline, and strategic foresight.”

Dr. Weerasinghe was among nine governors who received an ‘A grade this year, alongside peers from Chile, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Morocco, Paraguay and Peru.

Only three governors; from Denmark, the United States and Vietnam , earned the top ‘A+’ score.

The reasons why Sri Lanka will sink again (if at all) is not the fault of the Central bank or its Governor. At present we are not sinking as fortunately the NPP govt though they lied to the public, they did not overturn the IMF guided changes which are OUR changes and WE must own and implement them continuously. If the NPP government fails to ensure investment is attracted and if growth does not happen then we can fail again. We are suffering with high taxes, high fuel cost and unmanageably high expenses because we lived in an artificial world and even now most professionals, lawyers, tuition masters, doctors don't pay the true taxes. Simply we as a nation lived beyond our means and now we are suffering for doing so. Leaders and us consumers both must take responsibility.

However we Srilankan know what is the reality of the CBG Nandalal He has served under the 03 Prisdents and day by day we Srilankan living standard sinking. He just act like a puppet under the each and every government. He just need to secure his position.

You can't blame him because back then governments kept the CB under Gov instead to making it independent so they could foce the CB to print money to finance deficit SL is stable because the CB is independent and Gov no longer can print money
