CAA to expand consumer awareness drive in 2026

Colombo, January 9 (Daily Mirror) - Following a landmark year in consumer education, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced plans to further strengthen and expand its awareness programs in 2026, targeting the general public, schoolchildren, and the business community.

In 2025, the Authority conducted a record 1,540 consumer awareness programs, the highest number ever achieved in a single year. Through these initiatives, CAA officers directly reached more than 120,000 people across all districts of Sri Lanka, educating them on consumer rights, fair trade practices, and market regulations.

Beyond face-to-face programs, the CAA has continuously disseminated information through electronic, digital, and print media, significantly broadening its outreach to consumers and traders nationwide.

Officials say the expanded 2026 program will place greater emphasis on early education among school students and enhanced engagement with traders, with the aim of creating a more informed, fair, and transparent marketplace in Sri Lanka.

Members of the public can obtain further information or lodge complaints via the CAA hotline 1977.
