CAA launches phased drone regulation programme in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Jan. 19 (Daily Mirror) - The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has launched a formal, phased programme to regulate drone aircraft in Sri Lanka.

Director General of Civil Aviation Captain Daminda Rambukwella said that all drones with commercial value must be registered under the new system.

He said standard drone regulations were introduced last year under IES 53. As the first step, the CAA has launched an online drone registration system using QR codes.

Captain Rambukwella added that an online payment method will be introduced in the future, and that the full regulatory system and operational stations are expected to be completed within this year.

He also said licences will be introduced this year for those using drones for commercial and professional purposes, and that all drones fitted with cameras will be brought under regulation.
