Bus toppled near Nelligala, 26 hospitalised

It was reported that 26 passengers have been hospitalised after a bus veered off the road and toppled down a precipice while on its way to the Nelligala International Buddhist Centre, the police said.

The bus was coming from Moratuwa with around 47 passengers on board at the time of accident.

They said several passengers were admitted to the Kandy General hospital.

The accident took place around 1.30 pm. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Bus drivers drink and drive, I was on a hired bus one seat next to me empty bus drivers tok turns resting, I could smell arrack from them, now that prices are high some of them must be on other things, pills or kasipu, kasipu made cheap has crushed up pills probly sleeping pills, pain meds, inspection points need to be set up, random drug tests

There is somethingMAJOR wrong with how the Busses and their drivers are registered in Sri Lanka. Many possibly have NO idea how to drive one. Many also never check safety features such as tyres of the Bus before they drive off. Many are ignorant and could not care about driving safely and with utmost care. Why does not the Judicial system really get into these culprits and give them the most severe punishment like 30 years non bailable Jail with RI OR a FAR, FAR more severe punishment?? TIME IS RUNNING OUT....SO MANY LIVES ARE BEING LOST INVAIN.. MM

The bus drivers and conductors must be taking drugs or after hangover party. Too many buses toppling down. The police have no control over these bus drivers. Enforce traffic rules strictly by checking drivers and conductors. Ask the pilgrims to donate these monies to a worthy. Cause.
