Bus fare revision not pragmatic by lowering price of diesel by Rs. 10: Gemunu

With the recent auto diesel price reduced by Rs. 10, it is not practical to give a concession to the people. If so, even the people would treat this as a comedy, Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne said.

He told the Daily Mirror that it is even hard to calculate a fare percentage for the current bus fares.

Therefore, the association has taken a decision to reduce the bus fares while adding the recent Rs.10 reduction, if the next price revision takes place at a higher percentage, Wijerathne said.

"Other than reducing the bus fare by a minor percentage, we can provide a better service if we are supplied with adequate fuel for buses on time. With the current QR system, a bus will get only 40 litres of diesel for a week, which is not enough to run the whole week. Therefore, we requested the Ministry to supply us with full tank diesel in line with the QR code," he said.

Other than the QR code, we are supplied diesel from the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) depots for spot payment, and with that, we would be able to provide a better service, he said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
