Budget proposes to steer economy through same failed economic path: AKD

COLOMBO (Daily Mirror)-The budget 2024 has proposed to steer the country through the same failed economic path instead of finding permanent solutions to the grave economic issues faced by the country, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said yesterday.

Commenting on the budget, he said the President in his budget speech said that the country had adopted an economic policy of obtaining loans, printing money and selling state for the last 75 years and he proposed the same old policies as solutions.

“The first phase of his budget comprised a confession of his and his government over the destruction of the economy. He pointed out the failed economic policies adopted by the

government during the past 75 years including obtaining loans, printing money and selling state property. Then, in the second phase, he made proposals to exit economic shambles.

These proposals are also entirely based on the economic policies of obtaining loans, printing money and selling state property,” he said.

The MP said the President has proposed to increase the debt threshold by Rs. 3,400 billion.

Lets see what your party will propose during the budget debate. Let me guess, is it to stop privatising loss making SOEs so we can run them by obtaining loans and printing money? Or are you just going to complain about what is suggested is not good and then not provide any other reasonable solutions? That seems to be the pattern. Alot of talk, but no scientific data to prove anything.

Criticism is cheap. Instead AKD should've explained how he is proposing to raise money to spend on public services. Is AKD going to reduce taxes, fuel and electricity prices under future NPP government?

Mr. Perera, I do not know about taxes but the petrol/diesel bill can be reduced within a short time.We have the sources need to install the machinery, which will take about a year.In the process even the electricity bill can be drastically reduced. Provided a proper system is implemented the electricity bill of the low and middle class can be reduced to zero_ Many countries had done it.

What SL budget is all about getting grants And Loans to bridge the budget deficit, any shortfall Will be covered through borrowings from state banks, then also from EPF and ETF yeah!! No government plans to increase GDP!!

AKD and the NPP (JVP) supporters, please read these comments and realise that most tax payers and normal citizens are looking for a leadership that is genuine in what they say, will do the utmost that they can without robbing. You are such a negative bunch, you have burnt buses and destroyed society, delayed electricity generation, deprived private uni and really taken Sri Lanka backwards. Change, allow the younger educated JVPers like Dr Harini Harsha Nanayakkara to reform the party into a more real life party moving away from maxism and other no longer do able mentalities.
