Bohra funds drive Bambalapitiya Railway Station upgrade

Colombo, March 19 (Daily Mirror) - The modernization of the Bambalapitiya Railway Station commenced today (March 19) under a public-private partnership, with significant financial backing from the Dawoodi Bohra community.

The project, implemented under the “Dream Destination” program of the Clean Sri Lanka initiative, aims to upgrade key railway infrastructure to ensure a safer and more comfortable experience for passengers. An estimated Rs. 60 million has been allocated for the Bambalapitiya upgrade, which is expected to be completed within five months.

Funded largely through Bohra community contributions and supported by private sector expertise, the project includes improvements to platforms, sanitation facilities, lighting, security systems, accessibility for the disabled, and overall station infrastructure.

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Bimal Ratnayake praised the Bohra community’s role, describing it as a powerful example of unity and social responsibility, especially during a time of religious harmony. He said that such contributions go beyond monetary value and reflect a shared commitment to national progress.
