BIA (Daily Mirror) - The remains of Sujith Bandara Yatawara, a Sri Lankan national who tragically lost his life during the Israel-Hamas conflict, were brought back to the island earlier today (November 9th).
Yatawara's disappearance initially sparked concerns that he had been taken hostage by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
However, it was later confirmed that he had tragically lost his life in Israel. The Sri Lankan citizen had been missing since October 7th, the day when Hamas militants breached the blockade from the Gaza Strip and launched an unprecedented attack on nearby Israeli towns.
In the aftermath of the conflict, DNA samples provided by Yatawara's children were sent to Israel to aid in the investigation.
Yatawara, a resident of Wennappuwa had traveled to Israel in 2015.
