Colombo, March 15 (Daily Mirror) - Following a discussion with the Trade Minister, big onion importers agreed to provide their stocks at a price between Rs. 450 and Rs. 500.
A discussion was held yesterday between essential goods importers and the Minister at the Ministry over the matter of providing essential goods for people during the new year season.
After the meeting, Minister Nalin Fernando addressed the media and said the discussions with the essential goods importers were successful, and they agreed to provide their goods to the local market at a competitive rate.
Big onion importers said Pakistan had set limits on imports of big onions. However, they said that they are ready to import big onions from other countries like Holland and Turkey and supply stocks at a low price during the festive season.
Minister Fernando further said that it was agreed with the importers to reduce the price of milk powder by Rs. 150 per kilo, and he said that steps will be taken to provide this to the consumers as soon as possible.

Milk powder price drop soon? After the traders sell all their massive stock? Coz they never incline to govt order..
Make the Consumer king in this season! Friday, 15 March 2024 05:00 PM
Importers can decide the price range of onions, but consumers can go one step more. They can decide to curtail their demand for onions during festival and fasting season. Consumers! Please use your power, and see what happens net. Importers and seller were dictating terms to consumers all these days. This is a perishable food. See what happens.

We rather eat our food without big onions that pay such an amount. We urge the public not to by onions at this price. Every time a season is at hand this what they do. The trade minister is in all smiles because his pocket will get filled.

Make big onion traders starve by reducing consumption. See what happens to eggs? Even the plastic eggs story didn’t stop us from turning to Indian eggs! See what happened to carrots? All big social media hype. Consumers can actually control the price-if they stop blaming government and actually resist. Instead of sharing garbage on social media!

This reduction should have taken place in accordance with the rupee gaining value against the US dollar not because the minister and the traders agreed.
