Colombo, May 10 - Battery operated toys sold in the market are harmful to children, Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) Assistant Secretary Dr. Palitha Rajapaksa said.

Since these toys contain lithium, silver oxide and alkaline button batteries, children can swallow them, put them in their ears or noses, and if children swallow these batteries, it can even be fatal to the child through the electrochemical activities.

The first part of the alimentary canal (the esophagus) is naturally narrow, and the maximum damage can occur when these are swallowed, and the submerged battery can travel to the stomach and cause severe damage, Dr. Rajapaksa said.

He also said that even the stomach can be fatally damaged through this, and even life can be lost due to the blockage of the respiratory tract.

He further said that when a small child is involved in such an accident, the child should be brought to a hospital as soon as possible, and until then, two teaspoons of pure honey should be given to the child every 10 minutes as first aid.

So this time Mask sellers are not approaching Empty GMOA to offer them something for hazardous announcements to use Mask and Honey sellers succeeded in fixing a deal. Have we ever heard of an incident where a kid playing with battery operated toy swallowed the Batterry, while, the battery is difficult sometimes to remove from the toy even by an adult. In reality the strikes by GMOA are the root cause of death.

All toys specially MADE IN CHINA that doesn't pass QC is a threat to children. The paint and the plastic are toxic to the children. They touch and lick them regularly. 98% of the toys in Sri Lanka are made from low quality plastic and painted. When we order food we look for food grade plastic but not the toys for the children.

Button cell batteries are dangerous for small children who might swallow them. Parents should be aware of this.

Batteries are not only harmfulnfor the kids, they are harmful for animals, nature, human. It is environmental hazard.. in Sri Lanka you dont have proper battery collection, household are drowing used batteries to garbage, dump batteries to here and there into nature. This is a big and world wide issue. Scandinavia we are not buying such a toys for small kids, because we understand that it is just a waste of money and does not bring any value for our kids.

"Needs attention... surely a Trojan horse fielded before something bigger , darker and dirtier! Doctors, it's not your cappa to advise on every-matter that remotely touches human-life. There are qualified professionals with relevant expertise to advice on each and every industry. There is no one degree that will cover all elements on life , including yours. You are not experts to comment on everything! Remember your advice on Corona Cremations... you failed the nation ! You only sell what Big Pharma salesboys offer you. Would you even bother to read what's printed on the pack of a medicine? Most of you don't. Therefore, a lot of innocent patients get intoxications, allergies, and sometimes fatalities because you don't pay attention, at least to the manufacturers' warnings. Get your act together, without trying to play the role of Jack of all trades." or " Sakala-Kala -Wallabha " !
