Basil Rajapaksa returns; intends to lead SLPP campaign

Colombo, March 5 (Daily Mirror) - Former Finance Minister and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) founder Basil Rajapaksa arrived in Sri Lanka from the USA this morning.

A group of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) members including party General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, MP Sarath Weerasekera and Minister Prasanna Ranatunga were at the airport to welcome him.

He told the media at the airport that he intends to lead the SLPP's preparations for the upcoming elections.

This time it is going to be an ignominious defeat for pohottuwa, the mynah and the kaputa as never before suffered by any ruling party since independence; not even the humiliating defeat suffered by Mrs B in 1977 will come anywhere near it. The popularity of the pohottuwa in our village in the deep south which was around 90% just before the Presidential elections of 2019 has turned around and today it is below 09%.

While we all believe Basil robbed the nation, one must give him (and his media campaigners, data analytics team etc) due credit for defeating the two largest and oldest political parties and getting a very young or new political party the SLPP to win at elections. People of this country has the supreme power with our vote. Basil had the charm to convince (or was it hoodwink?) a majority in a democratically held election.
