BASL calls for an independent investigation into Rambukkana shooting incident

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) yesterday requested for an independent investigation into Rambukkana shooting incident.

The BASL said the government must ensure that the police and armed forces act with utmost restraint in the light of the genuine grievances of protesters.

The BASL President Saliya Pieris PC said the BASL was shocked and saddened at the loss of life in the incident at Rambukkana where the police are alleged to have shot at protesters.

"We are saddened that previous warnings made by us as far back as January 2022 went unheeded by the authorities. Our members will continue to do their utmost to safeguard the rights of the people of this country", Pieris said. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

Who gave order to shoot ? Why did police shoot? People are fighting for their right ? This is not Myanmar or North Korea to shoot like this . BASL, make sure justice is done. Enough of making the judiciary system in Sri Lanka a mockery because of politicians. No one is above the law including the donkey who calls himself the president. Justice needs to be served, you are the protector and the authority of the people, you represent the people of Sri Lanka not the politicians this is democracy. Sri Lanka needs rule of law not a jungle law introduced by politicians, the rule of law must applied for every one regardless of status or position. The IGP and everyone else who is responsible for this massacre must be brought to justice, there should not be any influence by the goons who are in parliament in serving justice.
