Colombo, February 22 (Daily Mirror) - Residents in the western slopes of the Central Hills have been urged to avoid parking vehicles near landslide-prone areas as heavy rains continue to lash the region, increasing the risk of earth slips.
The Nuwara Eliya District Disaster Management Center said that persistent rainfall since the evening of the 22nd has created a heightened threat of landslides in several vulnerable locations.
People have also been advised not to remain close to unstable slopes, while those living in landslide-prone areas have been requested to exercise extreme caution and remain alert to early warning signs such as cracks in the soil, tilting trees and sudden ground movement.
Meanwhile, residents reported facing numerous difficulties due to the ongoing rainy conditions, which have disrupted daily routines and transportation in parts of the district.
The DMC said the situation is under close observation and further advisories will be issued if necessary.
