Colombo, Feb. 3 (Daily Mirror) - Around 200 applications have been received for the post of Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines, Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku told Parliament today.

He said the number of applicants have been shortlisted to 75.

MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, who raised the question on the national carrier, said the application sent by former CEO of Papua New Guinea national airline has been rejected by the government.

Chamara Sampath`s logic is correct. For Sri Lankan airlines which even had totally unqualified Nishantha Wickramasinghe as chairman, any candidate who has been a head of even a very small national airline like Papua New Guinea with just 17 small planes is a grand qualification. Sadly, we can only take a wild guess as to where our debt-ridden national carrier will be taken from where it is.
