Army officer seen assaulting civilian at fuel shed, relieved off duties till probe completed

The army officer who was seen assaulting a civilian at the Yagghapitiya Petrol Station has been relieved off his duties with immediate effect by Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage until the probe is completed and a 5-member Court of Inquiry recommendations are received.

The army in a statement said that a parallel military investigation of the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Military Police (SLACMP) over the incident is also underway.

The Security Force Headquarters - West on Monday (4) appointed a five-member Court of Inquiry, headed by a Brigade Commander to go deep into the issue, related to this Senior Officer's conduct and make its recommendations, the army said.

The video of the army officer, who is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Sri Lanka Army, assaulting the civilian at the fuel shed went viral on social media yesterday, receiving much criticism from the public.

Please spare a thought- if this very incident happened in the North OR East will this officer be relieved of his duties? OR the innocent public victim further victimised and the officer promoted? there is a untold truth in this incident. everyone who was in fuel ques know that local thuggery play a major role and its a mafia blocking peaceful citizens getting their ration of fuel. we knew from statement of that man who was beaten that he didn't have a token. that same thuggery was there in every fuel station. that has to be stopped. we were seen well that police couldn't stop them. i am writing this by seen the ground reality. probably VIPs who was pumping fuel from kolonnnawa had not seen this.
