Two individuals including an Army Captain have been arrested over the possession of unauthorised weapons and ammunition, police said.
According to the Police Media Division, the suspects were arrested at a guest house in Nuwara Eliya on Wednesday (28) with a T-56 weapon, over 150 rounds of ammunition and two pistols.
Investigations have revealed that the T-56 weapon had been used in a shooting carried out in Homagama resulting in a death.
The suspects aged 36 and 39 are residents of Biyagama and Athurugiriya. The Army captain is attached to an army camp in Ratnapura.
The suspects are currently being interrogated by the officers of the Homicide & Organized Crimes Division after detention orders were obtained on them.
