Colombo, Feb 02 (PMD) - Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, the Commander of the Army, received commendation for his recent ground-breaking static parachute jump.
The event, officiated by Sagala Ratnayake, Senior Adviser to the President on National Security and Chief of the Presidential Staff, along with E. M. S. B. Ekanayake, Secretary to the President, celebrated Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage as a dedicated and highly trained military leader.
The placement of the parachute insignia (Airborne) on the Army Commander's uniform serves as a symbolic representation of this extraordinary accomplishment, signifying Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage's unparalleled dedication to pushing boundaries and leading by example.
The event was held at the Presidential Secretariat today (02).

Typically an airborne badge is given after extensive training and many many jumps and for young soldiers. Is he given this for completing one or few jumps? If so, what a shame!

Who the hell cares about a parachute jump??? It would have been an honour to give and receive such a medal had it been in the middle of a raging war, and the jump was made to save civilians. But this? Utterly ridiculous and yet another colossal embarrassment in getting our priorities mixed up. There are hundreds of quiet heroes who are feeding, educating and clothing our struggling masses but no one bothers to acknowledge their great work. But again, in usual delusional fashion, Sri Lanka will hold a ceremony for a parachute jump. Priorities, sir, priorities. What are they exactly in today's context?

Sagala has no official role to give Medals/ wings. He is appointed by his friend the President as an Advisor and paid by the Government. Similarly any self respecting General would NOT accept to be pinned by such a person. What a Bankrupt country- celebrating 75 years independence!!
