Colombo, March 26 (Daily Mirror) - Cabinet approval has been granted for the solar photovoltaic power plant installation project for 70 MW with an AC capacity ranging from 1 to 5 MW in 11 grid sub-stations.
Accordingly, Cabinet approval has been given on October 2, 2023, for the award of contracts relating to the supply of 51 MW at 5 grid sub-stations on a build, own and operate basis with an operational period of 20 years under the Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant Installation Project.
Proposals have been invited again for the supply of 19 MW for the remaining six sub-stations.
The proposal was presented by the Power and Energy Minister to award the contracts for the establishment of solar photovoltaic power plants for the grid substations of Ampara, Habarana, Kosgama, Kurunegala, Pannala and Veyangoda to the relevant investors as per the decision of the Cabinet-appointed Negotiation Committee, which took into consideration the proposals.

Building land based solar panel farms is such a waste of useful land. They should only be allowing roof top installations. There are plenty of roofs in schools, and other large buildings.
