Appoint Truth Commission to investigation May 9 incidents: Independent parties tell Prez



The ten political parties which became independent in Parliament requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to appoint a special presidential commission (Truth Commission) to investigate and recommend legal action on the violent incidents that occurred in the country on May 9 and thereafter.

In a letter to the President signed by party leaders such as Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, Vasudewa Nanayakkara and Prof. Tissa Vitharana have urged him to complete the commission's task within three months.

They said in the letter that unruly behaviour and violence that initiated at Temple Trees and spread to the other parts of country for several days should be investigated.

They also said that the root cause of the violence, those who ordered, planned and launched them should be revealed before the country and brought before the law. (Ajith Siriwardana)
