Applications open for 10th intake of interest-free student loan scheme



Colombo, November 5 (Daily Mirror) - The Education Ministry  has opened applications for the 10th intake of the Interest-Free Student Loan Scheme (IFSL), offering thousands of students the opportunity to pursue degree programmes at recognized non-state higher education institutes.

Students who have successfully completed the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination (A/L) in 2022, 2023, or 2024 are eligible to apply online through www.studentloans.mohe.gov.lk from November 1 to November 30, 2025.

Under the scheme, students can obtain up to Rs. 1.5 million in tuition loans and an annual stipend of Rs. 75,000 for living expenses. The loan is entirely interest-free, with repayment scheduled over a 12-year period, including a one-year grace period after graduation.

To qualify, applicants must have secured at least three simple passes at one sitting of the A/L examination and be under 25 years of age as of November 1, 2025. Students are also required to maintain 80% attendance and a minimum credit pass in all compulsory subjects throughout their studies.

Participating institutes include SLIIT, CINEC, Horizon Campus, ICBT, Lyceum Campus, Saegis Campus, NSBM, ESOFT Metro Campus, and several others offering English-medium degree programmes approved by the Ministry.
