Anusha Pelpita granted bail

Colombo , Feb 20 (Daily Mirror) -Former Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), Anusha Pelpita, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over allegations of unlawfully acquiring assets worth nearly Rs. 46 million, was released on bail.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama granted bail to the suspect on two sureties of Rs. 5 million each. The Magistrate also imposed a foreign travel ban on the suspect.

The Bribery Commission further informed court that it requires an analytical report regarding the suspect’s alleged investments in the stock market. A statement has already been recorded from one institutional broker and further investigations are being conducted in that regard.

Considering the facts presented today, court observed that no sufficient grounds were reported to further remand the suspect, and accordingly bail was granted.The case was fixed for May 29.
