Anti-corruption drive launched at DMT

Colombo, May 3 (Daily Mirror) - A bold anti-corruption initiative has been officially launched at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT), marking a significant step toward transparency and accountability in one of the country’s most publicly accessed institutions, Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Rathnayake said.

Under the slogan "Zero Tolerance – No Bribing!", the campaign aims to eradicate long-standing corrupt practices that have plagued the DMT for years. In a major move, CCTV cameras are set to be installed within the next few weeks, providing real-time surveillance to monitor operations and deter illegal activities.

Government officials say the initiative is not just a policy shift but a call to action for both honest public servants and vigilant citizens to unite in stamping out corruption from within the department. Authorities are hopeful that, with sustained commitment, the DMT can be cleansed of malpractices within a matter of months.

“The cancer of corruption has gone unchecked for too long,” an official said. “But with the support of clean officials and responsible citizens, we believe this can be cured.”

The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities and to refuse participation in bribery. The success of this initiative, officials emphasise, depends on a collective effort to uphold integrity and demand accountability.
