All female inmates transferred from Negombo Prison after unrest

Colombo, July 11 (Daily Mirror) - All female inmates detained at the Negombo Prison have been transferred to other prisons across the country following the recent unrest that caused extensive damage to the facility.

Prisons Department Media Spokesman and Prisons Commissioner A.C. Gajanayake said all 166 female inmates were evacuated as part of an emergency security and administrative measure after the prison complex sustained severe structural damage during the violent clash.

He said the inmates have been relocated to the Wariyapola, Bogambara, Angunakolapelessa, and Kuruwita prisons to ensure their safety while allowing authorities to begin urgent renovation work at the Negombo Prison.
