Around 500 airport employees staged a protest at airport premises today, demanding the payment of five basic salaries from the year-end bonus announced for 2025 by the Chairman of the Airport and Aviation Services Company Limited, Retired Air Vice Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama.
The protest involved members of the Sri Lanka Free Employees Union, the General Employees Union, the Progressive Employees Union, the National Employees Union, and the Sri Lanka Free Employees Union of Sri Lankan Airlines.
Addressing the protesters, Mr. Muhandiram, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Airport Free Employees Union, said that although employees had received double their basic salary as a bonus, the airport company reported an annual net profit of Rs. 21 billion.
He urged the government to approve at least two more basic salaries and warned that failure to meet their demands could lead employees to take stronger actions, including disrupting airport operations, to assert their rights.
