Agreement signed with Huawei for digitization of Sri Lankan schools

President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is on an official four-day visit to China, led the delegation to Huawei's research and development centre in Beijing today where an agreement was signed formalizing Huawei's support for the digitization of Sri Lankan schools, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

Simon Ling, Deputy Chairman of Huawei in China, announced his company's readiness to support an annual study programme aimed at nurturing software and hardware engineers in Sri Lanka.

He mentioned that Huawei has already initiated collaborations with several Sri Lankan universities, not only in academic assistance but also in providing technology and infrastructure.

President Wickremesinghe highlighted his visit's purpose, which is to discuss Sri Lanka's future.

He emphasized the crucial role of both the Chinese Government and Huawei in supporting Sri Lanka's digital education system and green energy production.

President Wickremesinghe also stressed the need for Sri Lanka to build a competitive digital and green economy to face the challenges of the future.

He noted that the foundational work for this transformation is already underway.

The discussions extended to the importance of empowering Sri Lankan citizens with digital technology, which is closely linked to the nation's economic growth. The Sri Lankan delegation was also briefed on Huawei's international services and their latest technological advancements.

Senseless decision. This will create serious issues with research opportunities with US, UK, Australia and Canada. Huawei technology is perceived as a spying tool of the CCP by many tech experts.

See all these ignorant commenters saying Huawei spies on consumers using their products. There is no proof at all. If it is spying you should be able to find which servers all this information is being sent to. They could not because there isn't any data transmitted. The only reason they did it was for political reasons and also because Huawei was growing faster in western countries than their own brands as they were reasonably priced and provide decent performance. Also use of smartboards do not require any hardware or technical knowledge. Just a PC is enough with basic computer skills. And students having devices is not compulsory for smartboards. This is a small step that can still help students absorb more information and new types of assessments for the students. Students having smart devices can be done much later.

When I see these comments, always negative when RW does something, it is surprising that people can so easily forget the suffering we had just over an year ago. When no one wanted to head the country, this man took up that risk and now the country is slowly coming out of the economic crisis and all that he does is for the betterment of the country. Just because he is heading a Cabinet filled with Pohottuwa people he should not be tarred with the same brush. Most people are brainwashed by the day to day negative comments against RW churned out by Sirasa News, since they never show anything positive done by RW.
